This is pure and undiluted which is why the cost may be higher than when comparing to others. It comes from the wood of Santalum spicatum which is a native tree of Australia. It has a top note which can be considered dry and bitter. is considered to be highly anti-microbial and also have high anti-inflammatory properties in aromatherapy and traditional medicine. The anti-microbial properties are due to the chemical farnesol which sandalwood contains between 5 - 10%. The anti-inflammatory properties of sandalwood are attributed to a-bisabolol which also makes us 5 - 10% and the oil stimulates the pineal gland in the brain due to it's high content of sesquiterpenes. This allows for deep relaxation of the nervous system and why it has been used so successfully for centuries in meditation. This makes it useful for a restful sleep. Sandalwood also contains certain phytohormones which are similar to androsterone in humans. Because of this, it has been used as an aphrodisiac as it is believed they bind to the receptors that androsterone does which increases sexual desire.
